SWMS is short for Safe Work Method Statement. It is an important tool to help supervisors and workers confirm and monitor the control measures required around High Risk Construction Work Activities (HRCW).
A SWMS document sets out your proposed high risk construction activities in logical sequences, identifies the hazards and describes your control measures to minimise safety risks.High Risk Construction Work (HRCW) is defined by each state OHS/WHS regulations. A SWMS is to be completed for all tasks deemed as HRCW.
Employers have a legal duty under the OHS/WHS regulations to prepare and monitor a SWMS for any HRCW activities they are intending on completing.
SWMS are a key planning tool in assisting supervisors and workers to develop, implement and monitor control measures for all construction work to be carried out safely.
The definition of HRCW varies between states. To ensure you understand your specific state legislative requirements, visit the below links for specific WHS Regulator guidance for prescribed activities.
VictoriaIf you send a SWMS to your OR someone else’s email address, please check it hasn’t gone to spam or junk mail.
If it has you need to drag it back into your inbox so it’s legible
